چکیده

Recently, ultra-wideband (UWB) technology, which uses a very short pulse for wireless digital communications, has been extensively investigated due to its significance that enables to transmit data sequences at a very high rate. Although the propagation range of UWB signals is short (about ten meters [1]), its impact on wireless home networks can be quite significant. Apart from the support of a high data rate, UWB can also provide multiple access so that multiple transmitters can be active simultaneously [2] and construct wireless networks [3]. A conventional UWB uses time-hopping (TH) sequences for multiple access and pulse-position modulation (PPM) for signaling [2]. There are other variations of UWB. In [4], an UWB based on direct sequence spreading has been considered and compared to the conventional TH-UWB. Due to the cochannel interference from other UWB transmitters, the performance is generally limited by the cochannel interference. In [5, 6], a characterization of the cochannel interference and performance analysis for the conventional TH-UWB are discussed. Since UWB systems suffer from the cochannel interference as code-division multiple-access (CDMA) systems, it would be possible to apply some interference suppression methods in CDMA to UWB. In [7], the multiuser detection for UWB that employs CDMA signaling is discussed. In [8], the multiuser detection for the conventional TH-UWB is investigated.

Th-uwb Receiver Based on Two Pdfs Approx- Imation in Multiuser Systems

As the distribution of the multiuser interference plus noise in time-hopping ultrawide bandwidth (TH-UWB) systems can not be reliably approximated by Gaussian probability density function (PDF), the bit error rate (BER) performance of the conventional matched filter receiver in TH-UWB multiuser systems degrades. In this paper we study a novel TH-UWB receiver based on two PDFs approximating the ...

Performance Evaluation of Time Hopping UWB Transmission Using S-Rake Receiver

In this paper, we address a performance evaluation of Time Hopping Ultra-Wideband (TH-UWB) transmission with proposed procedures, based on Pulse Position Modulation (PPM) and considering IEEE 802.15.3a Channel Models (CM1, CM2, CM3, CM4). Moreover, a Selective Rake (S-Rake) receiver is designed to counter the effects of multipath fading occurring in UWB channel Models. The TH-UWB signal detecti...

Frequency and Time Hopping PPM UWB Multiple Access Communication Scheme

In this paper we propose frequency and time hopping pulse position modulation (FTH-PPM) ultra wideband (UWB) for multiple access communications. We have derived and investigated the bit error probability for the multi-user synchronous transmitter case in multipath channels with Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN). Simulation results show that bit error probability performance of FTH-PPM UWB ou...

Comparative Study of Adaptive Multiuser Detections in Hybrid Direct-Sequence Time-Hopping Ultrawide Bandwidth Systems

This chapter considers low-complexity detection in hybrid Direct-Sequence Time-Hopping (DS-TH) Ultrawide Bandwidth (UWB) systems. A range of Minimum Mean-Square Error (MMSE) assisted Multiuser Detection (MUD) schemes are comparatively investigated with emphasis on the low-complexity adaptive MMSE-MUDs, which are free from channel estimation. In this contribution, three types of adaptive MUDs ar...

Reduce-complexity fuzzy-inference-based iterative multiuser detection for wireless communication systems

In recent years, combining multiuser detection and intelligence computer scheme have received considerable attention. In this paper, adaptive fuzzy-inference multistage matrix wiener filtering (FI-MMWF) techniques, based on the minimum mean-square error criterion, are proposed for ultra-wideband (UWB) impulse radio communication systems. These FI-MMWF-based algorithms employ a time-varying fuzz...
